[Welcome back to the office, Kanesan. He'll be pulled here not too long after sending that pic-- enough time to get some clothes back on, at least-- and Chuuya grins as he pops into existence, standing from his chair.]
Izuminokami, hey-- good to see you again.
[...it's kind of a relief, being able to see people again here.]
[ it might take a moment for him to realize what's happened because THAT WAS A BIT SUDDEN?? but once he recognizes where he is, kanesan is already smiling and turning toward chuuya. ]
You too, Chuuya. I wasn't we'd be able to speak again, after...
Exactly. I suppose I have Tamamo to thank for making it happen.
[ this is part of why he likes chuuya - he wouldn't make a bad commander, or even a bad master. ]
This demon just so happened to pick the right host to play to my weaknesses, that's all. Tactically, it was the best choice he could have made. Under any other circumstances, I would have fared much better - or at least damaged him more before falling.
[ with this, kanesan's smile fades and he dips his head in a slight bow. ]
I'm sorry to have failed you. I was hoping to lend my sword to you for a while longer.
[he stands at that, brow furrowed slightly as he crosses over to kanesan's chair-
and when he reaches it, he reaches out and sets a hand on his head.]
I hoped you would too, but don't go and apologize to me. If you fought your best against him and he just had the upper hand... you still went out fighting. That's the best way for anyone like us to go.
[...though he grins, just slightly.]
Maybe I'm a little bit of a hypocrite, though. I'd be apologizing to my boss too, in your place.
[ he allows this without any protest. it brings a small smile back to his face, at least. ]
Maybe that's why we get along so well.
...I don't plan on giving up. Whatever I can do from the other side to help, however small, I will do it. Though I can say it isn't nearly as interesting without you there to talk to... I may visit again, if you don't mind.
[ he's not going to answer properly until he's fixed his hair, huffs. maybe he's pouting a little when he does. chuuya knows by now that appearances are important to him! ]
No, I'm not. Isn't that why you chose me? [ did chuuya even make that decision? he's just assuming. ] But I imagine I'll have a lot more free time now than I know what to do with.
...I take it you've already found someone else to help you?
[i was reminded i lost this notif... rip the good boys!!
but chuuya just laughs as he fixes his hair-- yes, he knows, but that's exactly why he chose to tease this way.]
Your hair looks just as good a little messed up, don't worry. Especially against a pillow.
[he has to be This Way, unfortunately.]
...I don't know if I can tell you much about what's going on, but you don't have to worry too much about us. We'll make sure things get done-- and you'll always be welcome here if you have too much extra time.
[ jeez. he's not arguing the point - of course he still looks good, even when his hair's a bit messy? he always does - but kanesan will very pointedly wait until he's done fixing it to continue the conversation. ]
I thought that would be the case. [ it was worth asking about anyway. ] That doesn't mean I won't think about it - there's no way for us to know what's going on, you know. But I won't ask.
[ hard as that may be... ]
Will you tell me about your world instead, Chuuya?
[he's always pleased to see kanesan! and that's even more apparent with the fox ears and tail he's got this week-- his ears perk, tail swishing in a near-wag as he beckons kanesan in.]
[he looks slightly surprised at the question? but chuuya considers a moment before he stands, gesturing for kanesan to join him as he walks over to stand at the window.
the city spreads out below them until it reaches the sea, which stretches out to the horizon.]
This is home. Yokohama. My organization controls the underworld here.
[ he'll follow, pausing only when he hears the name. ]
Yokohama... I've been here once, but it wasn't like this.
[ there's a note of sorrow, faint but still present, in his voice as kanesan takes in the city. whether it's for whatever's changed, or something else, he doesn't explain. instead he opts for a wry smile. ]
The underworld, eh? So if things were different, we'd be on opposite sides of the battlefield.
kanesan may or may not have had something to say when he arrives, but it's forgotten the second he sees chuuya, as he immediately strides over to touch one of his ears. rude? sorry chuuya. ]
They're real...?
[ even kogitsune's "ears" are really just his hair?? ]
-hah, yeah. We probably would be-- though I guess the Mafia's been known to work with the law when we absolutely have to. The enemy of my enemy, and all... besides, where would we do business if we let the city get destroyed?
[whether this would count or not, it's good to be on the same side here, honestly.
he doesn't miss that sorrowful note in kanesan's voice, either, pausing for a moment before he asks-]
Mm, I could see Hijikata choosing to work with an organization like yours, if he had to... as long as you didn't support the Reformists, of course. He was known for doing what was necessary to support the Shinsengumi's cause, even if it wasn't considered honorable by others.
[ it takes a moment for him to respond to the question, smile fading as his expression turns thoughtful. ]
It wasn't as bright, for one. The port had just opened about ten years before I was forged, so it was still much smaller than this. We didn’t stay long, though, so there wasn’t a chance to see much of it, anyway.
[he peers out the window, his expression thoughtful. he's never really thought about how it must have looked back then-- chuuya's only ever known it as the city it is now.]
I mean, I knew it had to be built at some point, but I've never looked into it-- I've always been more concerned with the Yokohama I know than how it used to be.
[ that's a difficult thing to explain to a human, however, so kanesan moves on. why would chuuya want to know those details, anyway? ]
Our country was on the verge of being reforged by the time I was even born, so I can't say it's unexpected. But it is... strange, to see how much things have changed from the world I knew.
[ he shakes his head. ]
Time moves on no matter what, so there's no use in dwelling on things like that.
