[it's a while after the trial, and chuuya's been-- uncharacteristically quiet, honestly. he'd disappeared with caren for a while before finding assassin, and he's had very little to say.

up until he finally shoots assassin a grin, raising the bottle in his hand.]

[She might drink a little this time, as opposed to last night, but the bottle might feel shaky in her hand when she reaches for it. So she keeps her hands in her lap for now.]

I fear for what the loss of Clarke might mean, as well. But Madara Mikejima...it is really a shame.

He didn't seem so bad-- and at least we managed without Clarke this time, right? I think we should be okay.

[he pauses, taking a drink.]

...not going to miss Edogawa, though.

Oh? I do remember you telling me about Ranpo. Well, I'm not going to miss a Reaper, either.

[-he'd meant it when he said he trusted assassin, but he'd been unsure how he would take that admission, given his reaction to other deaths. madara was probably innocent, wasn't he?

but that last question gets chuuya's attention pretty damn fast.]

If you're jealous, you can just say so.

[Flatly. The conversation isn't quite over, and the jokes don't sit well in her stomach, so she continues.]

We suspected Ranpo; I believe those suspicious were well-founded. My suspicions about Madara.... I wish I had reconsidered.

[She's not planning on going into their reasons any more than that, and Assassin has said he wouldn't ask. Instead Caren will watch to see if she needs to stop her partner from getting into an altercation.]

[laughs at Chuuya because that's the first thing he reacts to]

No, it's fine. It really is unfortunate... I'm sure Eleanor would be sad.

[But Assassin isn't. Not too much. That's just how life goes. If Madara lived long enough to see the trial, there's no telling what he would have done after. This is better.]

Did you promise to keep your source quiet, or-?

Yeah. But don't worry. If you two knew about Junko and Ranpo... If we got the same information, that means our source is the same.

[ He takes another swig. ]

Actually, I met with them earlier.

[That probably makes sense. As quickly as information disseminates, the group of people around them who would trust others and pass it through to them is smaller than it probably appears from the outside.]

I suppose we have reason to trust their information after tonight.

Probably. I guess there's still a chance they're just trying to earn trust while working against us, but... fuck.

[he huffs out a breath, shaking his head.]

Either way, their information is good even if they turn out not to be.

Yeah, I'm with Chuuya. I don't know if they're a Reaper or not, but they know how to play the game, at least.

Ah, we can't rely on them all the time, though? We should do our own research. As far as I know, Reapers are those who don't have a fee. Terra told me he lost the Light inside him but...

Well... as much as I hate him, I don't think that's true.

[Caren nods in agreement. The partnerships are good but have sometimes felt businesslike; the four-of-them-now-three have incentives for working for information together that seem entirely different. And if just one or two people are doing the work, there's no diversity of information.]

Seeing as Reapers are former players, it should not be too hard for their to invoke the memory of that loss.

...Terra might have lost that once, then, we can assume, so he could know what that was like.

The problem here is that if they're good actors, it'll be hard to tell if they're lying about what they lost. I mean-- it's difficult to prove some losses in the first place, right? I can't prove there's shit I don't remember.

Don't be so hasty, Assassin. Your situations are the same. Just as easily, you could be pretending to not remember your True Name.

[A Servant who's forgotten his name is a tragic thing and weakened by the loss of it, but she's really the only one who would know just how vulnerable lying about his own identity could make him look.]
