[PCs] team trust no bitch aka team hat aka chuuya & caren
[but is it really team hat if only caren has one, though? that's the real question here.

...
[It's a real, weighty pause.]
It matters less to me than you'd think. But I've been told I need to rail against the system more often, and I wouldn't put my needs in front of yours.
no subject
'matters less than you'd think' isn't highly reassuring, but neither is it 'doesn't matter at all'. he'll have to go with that for now.]
...yeah, alright. As long as you're not going to up and decide you want to die for real, I've dealt with that more than enough.
did you cw for self-harm when you linked this? otherwise i'll do it now
[Asking too many questions is outside of her normal style. She doesn't really care to pry so explicitly. But things have been strange enough that being an observer has been harder.
Caren lifts the arm he'd practiced healing on, the one she'd had to unbandage to cut open.]
So, this...? [He'd asked about it before.] It was from your experience.
i forgot so thank you
[there's a good deal more anger in chuuya's tone, here, like he physically cannot mention him without his blood pressure rising. that's probably true.
a moment later, though, he breathes out a laugh without much humor to it.]
But he's still alive, and here I am instead. How's that for irony?
thumbs up
But that's exactly it, Chuuya Nakahara. You are here, and he is not.
[Is she trying to say something kind and calm him down? It could be, if he can sense something in her voice.]
no subject
[that certainly is a way to look at it, sure,
he shakes his head, though, looking back to her.]
I told you, it's Chuuya. And speaking of being here... I ought to warn you there's someone here who knows me. An enemy of mine, when we were both alive.

['met'. technically, it isn't wrong, he just doesn't want to tell her he lost a fight already.]
The one I'm talking about is Edogawa Ranpo. Short guy, black hair, glasses, insufferable little shit.
no subject
[She also doesn't disclose exactly that the impression was or what Assassin said about him.]
I see. Edogawa... What an interesting name. Do you see him as a substantial threat?
no subject
for the moment, though:]
Not a physical threat, he wouldn't be able to beat me in a fight. There's two problems with him: he's a detective where we're from, and he knows I'm from the mafia.
[and so does caren, now.]
no subject
So you have killed before - and probably killed many. [Somehow she knew already, even without talking about it to him and others.]
I'll keep it in mind. With your background, it's possible he'll "put the heat on you," isn't it?
no subject
[little shit trapped him in a book and chuuya is still angry.]
...on the other hand, it means I have the right skillset to make sure we win. You're not wrong, I've got a pretty high body count by now.
no subject
[Her voice is cautionary.]
We shouldn't open a door before it should be opened.
no subject
[but, uh, about that. chuuya pauses for a second.]
Might've come close with one, though.
[FAILED STEP ONE.]
no subject
[Does he, though? She regrets saying that like, a second later.]
... I beg your pardon?
no subject
[he's just... laying back on the roof, arms folded behind his head, not looking at caren.]
He called me a moron, so I pulled him down off a vending machine and tried to punch him-- he wanted a fight and he got one, yeah?
[this is what you're going to have to deal with and I'm so sorry]
no subject
Yeah, he's so casual about it, she can tell that that it's normal for him, but the lack of eye contact makes her decide to push the issue.]
Do you have a bad temper you haven't yet told me about, Chuuya Nakahara?
no subject
[so, the short answer here is 'yes'.]
no subject
Of course, I can't stop you, but an Assassin by nature is someone who was particularly skilled at killing in life.
[people die when they are killed]
no subject
[but for all that he sounds dismissive at first-
chuuya breathes out a sigh a moment later, shaking his head.]
I figured that much out when he won. I'm the best martial artist the mafia's got, I shouldn't be that easy to beat, but-- ah, shit, maybe I was just thrown off from not having my ability.
[he has to salvage some pride about it, here.]
no subject
But if you'd like to argue that you're simply out of practice, we can say that.
[Too bad Chuuya's lying down so he can't see her shit-eating demon of a smirk.]
no subject
[he assumes the smirk is there, honestly, he's used to that being the case... thanks a lot, dazai.
he does roll on to his side to face her, there.]
You sound like you know this guy, though. What do you mean, immortalized?
no subject
I've never met him. But I do know his kind - that is, Heroic Spirits.
It'll mean he has a strong reason for leaving this place alive, so he could be hostile.
[stop
fighting
shinshin.]
no subject
[i'm so sorry but caren's gonna have to give him some more detail on that part]
You're not wrong about the hostility, though, he seemed awfully eager to fight.
[caren explains fate]
[But she's an adult, so she just said they could fight later.] You shouldn't go out of your way to defend me, but I'm probably a more obvious target than you.
But what you said about spirits isn't correct. We are dead, but we aren't like Assassin. Assassin is the spirit of a man notorious by name in history. Even before we ... came here, he was a spirit, waiting for a chance to fight for the Holy Grail.
thanks professor caren
