week 5, we're all dead, monday (jacopo, chuuya, & caren)
[so, they maybe have some things to discuss after their respective demises.
chuuya's told jacopo which room he's sharing with caren and told him to drop by anytime that night, except when he does show up he's getting a very hurried "give us a minute-" before chuuya lets him in a minute later.
it's fine.]
Hey, sorry--
Figured we all have a few things we're gonna need to talk about. I don't mind sharing with everyone else later, but this is a little easier for now, yeah?

ANYWAY]
Depends on what we want to get out there first. I'm interested in knowing who killed him--
But I did confirm Akira was there when I died and barely lifted a finger. Found out who we were missing, too.

Oh, Newt. As much as I want to clobber the bastard, I don't detest him. Reapers facilitate — I was under the impression my death was inevitable, anyhow.
I do, however, loathe those who cannot commit to their sins.
[ then there's a scoff. ]
Of course he was. He should have done us all a favor and died instead of taking a position he couldn't possibly handle. Well, who landed the blow, then?
no subject
He was under the impression all Reapers are the same; which, regardless of the factions in play here, I also fear I cannot fault him for. Ultimately, I think you are the same in nature, though your actions set you apart from one another.
[Again, even beyond factions, there's some invisible line. Caren would be more interested in giving Chuuya some grief, poking at him to cover his own self up if he's so concerned about modesty -- look, Jacopo can handle it just fine --
but her expression has turned to one of silent, molten anger as the topic turns to the killer they managed to overlook.]

[but then, this game pushes people to do things they might not, right? chuuya shakes his head--
and when he catches sight of the anger in caren's expression, his own hardens, though he still gives her a little grin. it is not a pleasant one.]
Undine killed me. They both spent half the time complaining about how much they never wanted to do it-- I had to admit I got rid of Madara to get her to act, and all Akira did was throw a box at me and talk.
Seems like it was revenge for Ranpo, for whatever reason. I told her all I did was settle a score and kill a murderer, but... well, guess she cared more about her Reaper friends than anyone else.

[ ah. and there's that anger. jacopo's characteristic smirk does not dissipate, but something in his eyes hardens.
...until there's the mention of undine. ]
...Are you kidding me? I thought that girl was simply an idiot rather than a Reaper, but it looks like she's both! Christ! And if you hadn't gone and killed Ranpo, I sure as hell would have done it myself!
[ SORRY, HE IS? A LITTLE STEAMED? ]
The qualifications for this job are close to 0 at this rate, my God. Akira won't be living past this week, I'm sure of it. However, one of those two must live, or else the Erased are damned. I'm starting to wish we kept Junko alive — at least she was aware of what her job entailed.

[It's a pretty immediate answer because Caren has been chewing on her own hurt for a long time, now. She still easily remembers Saturday and the trial two weeks ago. She closes and reopens her eyes, steeling herself.]
But I won't be selfish for the sake of my own feelings, either. I know you don't have time to waste in this limbo, but I won't put my fate above anyone else's.
[She's steamed too, though she hides it a little better. Caren's anger is mostly silent even where his voice is loud.]
After forcing Akira Kurusu to finally kill on Sunday, I fear he's more protected by those friends of his than he was before.
no subject
[his fists clench at that. fuck. that's the worst thing he's heard in this entire stupid game.]
...he just might make it, though. I think Akira's got more protection than you've seen. Hey, Jacopo-
[chuuya glances back to him, there, and recites:]
You. Orihara. Mary. Alex. Kurosaki.
I was given that list before I died. If it's right? Someone is working with him, and I bet we can guess who on that list it'd be.
no subject
As if I can blame you. They were — and are — a threat, it's only natural that you'd desire their demise. You have...things to live for, however. We'll be sure to make them pay another way.
[ a beat. ]
Tch, I know — my...former partner is a member of his ensemble of bodyguards, unfortunately.
[ but then he gets hit with that.
his eye twitches.
his wings do too.
rage flashes in his eyes. ]
...For the love of fucking...god, are you kidding me!? I knew Kurosaki's goddamn crush would get the best of him!
no subject
Almost simultaneously with Jacopo's anger, though quieter and a little later.]
... The rats certainly did take run of this place.
He tried to make us leave you, Chuuya. Me and Assassin, when you were lying there.
[She already knows from their other conversation that his handling of the hair was intentionally suspicious, but this just brings that conversation in Chuuya's arms back in full.]
no subject
[WELL WE'RE ALL ANGRY HERE NOW I GUESS because chuuya can't stay seated either. he pushes himself to his feet, pacing restlessly.]
What fucking right did he have to try to make you two, of all people, leave? If he ends up here--
[he stops pacing there, voice more of a growl.]
He'd better hope he lives, because if I lay eyes on that little shit I'm going to teach him how the Port Mafia pays its debts.

We're all a little stressed, needless to say. The fool's been playing for the other team longer than I expected.
[ yes the double meaning is intentional, unfortunately. ]
I'm aware that fulfilling one of the win conditions won't "impress" my employer, but I highly doubt a group of righteous murderers singing kumbaya will either.
no subject
You didn't seem the type to subscribe to those sorts of biases. Luckily, I don't need bigotry to find his behaviors despicable.
[Caren says that completely neutrally, so it's difficult to tell if she means it in an underhanded way if she's truly surprised by his tone.]
Which condition? We are cursed enough that it would be easiest to achieve, wouldn't it? Now that the rest of one faction has completely exposed themselves, it could be a matter of days.
no subject
[caren's already got the rest of the commentary on jacopo's Opinions, there, so chuuya is just taking and lighting a cigarette with a brief little nod of thanks, taking a short drag from it. he's done this before, apparently.]
Honestly, it's kind of bullshit to get dragged into a game like this and then hear we apparently weren't supposed to fucking play it right. I told both of them when they came for me that they weren't living to eight weeks, and if Assassin has his way I'm pretty sure they won't-- if your boss ends up unimpressed that we were good at what we did, they can go fuck themselves.
